Chise

Chise's not very strong but is always trying her best in everything. Her favorite subject is world history and her worst subject is Physical Education. Chise became the ultimate weapon when her body was remodeled into a killing weapon to be used in the on going world war. Chise asked Shuji out initially under the consistent pressure of her best friend: Akemi.

Shuji

Shuji is the male main character, he likes Chise but was initially afraid to express his true feelings partly due to his memory of his 1st love and also to the fact that Chise is a human weapon. Shuji always thought of himself as useless, as his fellow classmates died one by one in the war, he became even more hopeless. In the end, Shuji realized how much Chise means to him and gave up everything in order to protect the one person he values the most.

Akemi

Chise's best friend. Akemi has a crush on Shuji ever since they were toddlers, but she was afraid to tell him her true feelings.

Atsushi

Atsushi is one of Shuji's closest friends. He secretly likes Akemi and later confessed to her only to find out that the person Akemi truly love is Shuji. Later Atsushi joined the army in order to fight for the ones he love.

Fuyumi

Fuyumi is older than Shuji and is Shuji's 'first love'. She's now married but since her husband Tetsu hasn't returned home for a long time, she's miserably lonely and once again thought of Shuji.

Tetsu

Tetsu is the regime leader. He treated Chise like a ordinary girl and took her to go shopping despite the strict regulations and schedules in the military. Tetsu also love his wife, Fuyumi, very much.

Yukari

Yukari used to be a member of the group that hangs out with Chise and Akemi. But after her boyfriend, Take died (in the first episode), she stopped going to school.

Take

One of Shuji's close friends. He died in one of the enemy bombings.

Satomi

Akemi's younger sister, she also respects Shuji very much.

Kawahara

A military man who usually tries to find Chise when the military needs her. He later wanted to save Chise when her human body was dying and she was getting completely taken over by her machine part.
